Introduction
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (MBA) is a programme of Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM) approved by AICTE and is equivalent to MBA programme. This MBA of IITTM shall focus on management of tourism and travel
Objectives
The programme of study aims at preparing graduates for taking up employment in a business organisation or self employment and / or carrying forward their family businesses. The objectives of this programme of study are manifold-
- Enable young learners develop a business sense and sensitise them to nuances of tourism scenarios.
- Introduce and train specially for managing tourism and travel businesses among others.
- Learn principles and practice of management especially in travel and tourism companies
- Equip and enable learners to start a new tourism and travel related business venture
Accordingly, the programme has a large component of working in real world situations under the careful guidance of mentors.
Course Structure
- This is an intensive programme of study of 2 academic sessions.
- The programme shall be divided into four semesters. There are three taught semesters and one semester of on-the-job training. There shall be an examination at the end of each taught semester.
- Each taught semester shall comprise of nine courses, each of three hours per week equivalent teaching obligation and equal amount of self study.
This programme is a whole time programme of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management
Eligibility
Candidates seeking admission to the MBA programme shall be required to possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50 % marks in aggregate of a University or equivalent thereto (45 % for SC/ST/PH).
Admission process
Admission to the programme shall be through an admission process of 100 points.
A weight of 70% shall be for the performance in a centralised All India Admission Test.
Another 15% points each are for Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion (GD) respectively. Merit for admission to the programme shall be determined by the institute.
Seats and reservation
Admission will be offered on 60 (sixty) seats in each batch.
There will be reservation for SC/ST/PH candidates as per rules of the institute/ Government of India.
Scheme of instruction, evaluation and progression
.
- There shall be three semesters of taught programmes. Each taught semester is of 4-5 months duration.
- Total credits for the programmes are equivalent to 32 courses. Each course of 32-35 hours instruction and equal hours of self study.
- Each course of 3 hours duration (per week) is of 100 marks. Each taught semester is of 900 marks. The total marks for whole programme are 3200.
- Each course shall be evaluated in part on the basis of internal assessment by the concerned teacher administering 3 feedback tests normally after 10-11 hours of teaching. Each test shall be of 20 marks, two best out of these three shall determine the internal assessment score of the candidate in the course concerned (total 40 marks). Feedback test may be a written exam, quiz, presentation, exercise, essay, personal interview etc. as considered relevant by the teacher concerned.
- There shall be a semester-end external examination of 60 marks. There is no fixed pattern of question paper. Depending up on the demands of the course, a question paper may be designed.
- Courses 401 and 402 shall be evaluated as per scheme given in syllabus.
- To pass each taught semester a student shall have to score 40 % marks in each course and also 50% marks in aggregate (of all the courses in the semester, 9 in this case) internal and external marks taken together.
- A student will be Allowed To Keep Term (ATKT) to next semester if he obtains 50% marks in aggregate and fails in not more than 3 courses of the semester.
- A student who fails in one or more courses will appear for the exams with the subsequent same semester examinations.
- Wherever a student appears at an ATKT examination s/he will do so according to the syllabus at that time and fulfill the requirements of the course in force at that time.
- A student can hold at most 6 ATKTs (back courses) of all previous semesters at any point of time to be promoted to next semester.
- A student must pass all his/ her courses within 4 years of admission to the programme.
Practical exercises and trainings
Programme shall increasingly depend up on practical exercises and trainings as a part of pedagogy.
- Intervening period between second and third semester shall be used for summer training in an industrial/business unit
Learners shall be required to undertake study tours and prepare project reports
- During the fourth semester students shall undertake an on-the-job training with a company. Training outcome and project report shall be equivalent to 400 marks.
- Another 100 marks are for summer training project report based on training undertaken between second and third semester.
Specializations to be offered
This programme shall offer dual specialization.
Student will have a choice to opt for two specializations from amongst Air fare and ticketing, Air cargo operations and management, Tour operations, and Marketing.
Electives will be offered during second and third semesters.
Center however, depending upon its resources, shall decide whether or not to offer a particular specialization in any academic session.
Attendance.
A student to be eligible to appear at final examination must have at least 75% attendance in the concerned course. A relaxation of 15% may be allowed by the Director on grounds on ill-health and other reasons and engagements
Minimum number of classes per week/per paper
Each of the nine courses in the semester shall have an obligation equal to 3 hours per week. Chair shall organize non-credit course, seminars, syndicated exercises, assignments, etc. as and when required.
